Choosing your road to happiness

I was on a yoga retreat in Málaga last week, and on day three, we did a day-trip to a lake in the mountains. At some point, we were on our way back to the cars and there were several paths and ways to get to the parking lot. I noticed that several people were taking a different path; some went left, some went right, some passed by the toilet, but in the end, we would all meet up at the car whenever we were ready. I found that so interesting to observe, because it was the perfect metaphor of how everyone chooses the path that they think is right for them, but that the destination is the same. We all make our own journey, we walk our own path, but in the end, don’t we all just want to be happy, live light and feel loved?

Road to happiness

When I think about the metaphor in Málaga , it gives me so much faith. It reminds me that I have a choice and that I don’t need to be or do anything that makes me unhappy. Never. It makes me realize that no external thing can every satisfy me so deeply as the understanding that I AM FREE TO CHOOSE and to follow my own road to happiness, ALWAYS.

I regularly ask myself why I work on myself and do trauma healing, and the answer is always the same: because I want to be happy and enjoy life. There’s so much force inside ourselves when it comes to trauma healing. It’s not about healing so you are able to handle life, it’s about healing so you are able to enjoy your life. Healing is about gaining the inner strength to eliminate that what’s not working for you from your life and to find a way to integrate that what MAKES YOU HAPPY. It could be changing minor things to your routine, approaching things from a personal mindset, or simply choosing to let go. I love working out, I love meditation, I love being around people, I love writing and being creative, but it’s all about finding ways to integrate all of it into my life. It’s a very personal path to walk, and no one can do that for you, but YOU CAN DO IT for yourself. It is a matter of taking responsibility and putting yourself first.

When I’m not sure what I want or I struggle to make a momentarily choice, I say to myself: I accept EVERYTHING that is. I observe and immediately feel clearly what I truly want and I choose that direction. It’s the choice that will always make me the happiest, and however unconventional or hard it may be, it will be the right choice for me.

I know that my mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health are very important to me, and it’s up to me to nourish them. I choose to fill in the blanks with people, surroundings and habits that bring me closer to myself and my destination. It’s always a choice. I can go left, right, straight forward or step back a little, but I always make the promise to myself that whatever I choose, will bring me closer to my destination.

Because, in the end, it’s the decisions you make in the moment that will give shape to the journey. And the journey is what, ultimately, will bring you to the destination. So nourish your journey and make choices that make you happy, because a happy journey will bring you to a happy destination.

With all my light, love, happiness, and appreciation,

Lynn
